I wonder if western culture has effected the festivities in dubai during new year and christmas celebration. Can I think of clebrating my next new year there and expect to have a great time as in my own country? What other kind of festivals are celebrated there?I do expect festivities at their best as it is a rich country.

I think it definitely has. This is mainly because a lot of people there admire the western culture and are greatly influenced by them. They often try to imitate them. Also, Dubai has a lot of people that are working there but were hired from the west. So they still celebrate their original festivities. It is not uncommon for places to give chrismas holidays, except they call it winter holidays or winter break.

When I lived there, they had winter breaks and everything. I don't know about the other ones like good friday and easter and thanksgiving, but I am sure there are places there that do it, mainly because there are many foreign businesses operating in the area. They also have hindu holidays like diwali. I don't think being able to celebrate your own festivities is much of an issue.

Yes, of course the muslim holidays are definitely there since that is the local religion followed, even the laws are built around the religion so it should be easy to understand that they have kept the holidays. And it is very true, the whole place is the same as other places during Christmas, when every one is doing stuff, and the weather is slightly better.

yes there are still special holidays there. people in Dubai are not just Muslims. There are many people from other countries who are working in Dubai. And i think there is a specific place where workers meet to have their leisure time and celebrate occasions and holidays.

Now the western culture is catching up every where over the world, the celebrations are completly different now. The younger generation now is interested in different kind of celebrations with their friends, than to in those traditional ones.
